Jesus Came to Destroy!
Jesus Came to Destroy! "…. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil." - 1 John 3:8b (ESV) Jesus came to destroy! Well, that’s quite the statement, isn’t it? We usually don’t associate Jesus with destruction but with peace and harmony, but this is exactly what the scriptures say Jesus came to do. His eyes were fixed on destruction! 1 John 3:8b tells us a pivotal truth: Jesus, the Son of God, appeared on Earth with a specific mission—to destroy the works of the devil. This mission was not limited to His time on Earth but continues today as Jesus intercedes for us in Heaven. Divorce, separation, adultery, hardness of heart, and all the sins that have caused this rift between you and your spouse are all works of the devil, designed to steal, kill, and destroy. However, as believers standing for the restoration of our marriages, we have a powerful truth to anchor our faith upon: Jesus came to destroy these works of the devil. Today, let’s explore how Jesus’ mission to destroy the devil’s works provides us with unwavering confidence that He is actively working to reconcile our marriages and shatter the forces that seek to keep us apart. It’s no great revelation on my part to tell you that separation and divorce are painful and challenging experiences. But please know that they are the outcomes of the devil’s destructive agenda, seeking to tear apart the sacred bond of marriage that God designed. Adultery, hardened hearts, and the sin that has crept into your marriage relationship are all tools Satan is employing to dismantle your marriage. Being confident that Jesus came to destroy these works of the devil provides us with profound assurance of God’s will for our marriages. I get asked all the time, “How do I know it’s God’s will to restore my marriage?” My answer is simple. Because Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, that means He came to destroy the very things causing you and your spouse to be disconnected and separated. It’s God’s desire to see marriages reconciled, hearts softened, and sins forgiven. When we stand for marriage restoration, we align with God’s intention to undo the carnage brought on by the enemy. While Jesus is the ultimate destroyer of the devil’s works, never forget that we are invited to participate with Him in this mission. We do so through all the ways I share in this book, teach in our courses, videos, and in my 1-on-1 counseling sessions. But one of the most significant ways we cooperate with Jesus in destroying the devil’s works is through forgiveness. As Jesus forgives us, we too, extend forgiveness to our spouses. Forgiveness breaks the chains of bitterness and allows God’s love to flow freely, softening our hearts and healing wounds. In the process of restoration, we must resist the devil’s tactics that seek to prolong separation and discord. We stand firm in faith, refusing to accept the enemy’s lies. Instead, we declare God’s promises over our marriages and trust that Jesus is at work destroying the plans of the devil! As a supernatural stander for the restoration of your marriage, you have the profound assurance that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil. Divorce, separation, adultery, and hardness of heart are all part of the devil’s strategy to hinder God’s plan for your marriage. Get excited and confident; Jesus is actively at work to break these chains and set you and your spouse free. So, as you stand for your marriage miracle, remember that you serve a Savior who actually came to destroy, and through Him, you can confidently anticipate the restoration of your marriage.
