Destroying Speculations As You Stand For Marriage Restoration “For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” - 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (NASB) Today, we will continue to look at the passage from 2 Corinthians 10 dealing with spiritual warfare. Yesterday we saw how we have been given divine weapons to destroy strongholds; let’s look now at the specific strongholds that Paul discusses. Verse 5 reads: “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” I am sure you have heard the last part of this verse before: “Take every thought captive!” While you are standing for marriage restoration, it is crucial to take every thought captive and make sure it is God’s thoughts and not the enemy’s. I can’t overemphasize this point, so let’s look deeper into this verse and get even more specific on this topic of taking thoughts captive and the connection with the previous verse of destroying strongholds. Verse 5 talks about two specific areas that are strongholds that need to be destroyed, speculations and lofty things! They must be eradicated in order for us to take our thoughts captive. It is no coincidence that Paul tells us to destroy a few things and then commands us to take our thoughts captive. I know many standers who try to take captive their restless thoughts about what their spouse is doing and who they are doing it with, but they don’t seem to be able to sustain victory. Why? Because they have not destroyed these two strongholds with the divine power of God explained in verses 4 and 5. Allow me to briefly describe what speculations and lofty things are, and you be the judge whether they are active and hindering your stand or not. Let’s look today at “speculations.” These can be best described as the “what ifs” our mind tells us. You know those speculative thoughts: “What if my spouse serves me divorce papers today?” “What if my spouse starts dating?” “What are my kids going to go through?” “What if I lose the house?” Have you noticed how almost 100% of the “what ifs” are negative and not hopeful? Why is that? They are usually demonically inspired thoughts the scriptures describe as a stronghold in the form of speculations. As you stand for your marriage, you must start recognizing when these negative speculations try to come and become strongholds in your life. No longer allow yourself to ponder these thoughts and meditate on all the lies they bring. You will become hopeless and lose all supernatural joy. Why? Once again, this is the spiritual warfare and weaponry of the enemy. You must use the divine power God has given you and destroy them, execute them, and not allow them to live in your mind for one more second of your stand. You can do this! Today is the day that those speculations torment you no more. Today, they are being arrested and destroyed by the divine power God has given you to use. So get ready for the stronghold of speculations to be demolished in your stand for restoration! Freedom is here!
